Alice Springs

The Red Centre

Central Australia never ceases to surprise or amaze, whether you’re a local or visiting for the first time. From the moment you arrive in this vast and unique landscape, an abundance of exciting fun filled adventure awaits.

From exploring this region’s unsurpassed desert landscape by foot or on wheels, to investigating the rich and diverse cultural history to actively engaging in nature-based experiences or attending fun and quirky events – Central Australia hosts a wealth of activities, attractions and experiences matched with world class facilities and genuine outback hospitality.

At the centre of the region lies Alice Springs, framed by the MacDonnell Ranges and desert landscape. Spend a day or a week exploring the sites in and around ‘Alice’. Take a stroll along Todd Mall, which is lined with art galleries. Stop at Papunya Tula Artists, Talapi Art Gallery and Mbantua Art Gallery to admire stunning Aboriginal Art from across the Red Centre region. While you’re in the area, enjoy lunch at one of the vibrant cafés dotted throughout Todd Mall.

While in Alice, hire a bike from Red Centre Adventures and enjoy a gentle ride alongside the dry Todd River to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station. There is also plenty of parking if you prefer to travel by vehicle. Constructed in 1871 and now beautifully restored, The Telegraph Station is the birthplace of the Alice Springs township, situated 4km north of the Town Centre. Spend an afternoon learning about the many uses of the Alice Springs Telegraph Station on one of the 20 minute daily guided tours. The site is commonly known for being the central repeater station to relay morse code between Adelaide and Darwin, but it served numerous other purposes throughout the decades! These days you can take a break at The Trail Station Café and try the famous Vanilla Slice and delicious NT roasted barista coffee.
